☀️ THE BENIDORM BULLETIN

Your weekly dose of sun, sangria, and what’s on

3–10 May 2026

FROM THE EDITOR

We touched down back in the UK last Saturday after another trip to Benidorm, and we’ll be honest — leaving never gets easier. The days were genuinely gorgeous, sitting between 25 and 27°C, the kind of warmth that makes you feel like a different person entirely. The evenings were a different story, though. Once the sun dipped, the temperature dropped sharply enough that you’d have been very grateful for a cardi in your bag.

What struck us most this trip wasn’t the weather itself, but what the locals had to say about it. More than a few long-term residents told us it’s been the worst winter they can remember in years — changeable, unsettled, and nothing like the reliable Spanish sunshine they’re used to. It’s been that kind of season. The good news? May is when Benidorm shakes all of that off and properly comes into its own again.

With the UK bank holiday kicking off the month and the season getting into gear, there’s never been a better time to be heading out there. Everything you need to know is right here.

LEAD STORY

MAY IS HERE — AND BENIDORM IS READY FOR YOU

The season is building, the beaches are filling up, and the Old Town is buzzing again. Here’s what to expect.

There’s a moment every year in Benidorm when you can feel the season click into gear. The bars that were running on skeleton staff suddenly fill up. The promenade gets busier. The peamen take up their positions on Levante like they never left. May is that moment, and if you’re heading out this week, you’re landing right in the sweet spot.

The Levante and Poniente beaches are building up nicely, and with UK May bank holiday visitors starting to arrive, the whole place has that brilliant early-season energy — busy enough to feel alive, but not yet the full summer intensity. The Old Town is especially good right now: warm evenings, terrace tables full, and that particular atmosphere you only get when the season is still fresh.

The Strip and English Corner are fully open and firing on all cylinders. Think of it as Benidorm tuning up — the full orchestra is in the pit and the performance has very much started.

What this means for you:
  • Arrive mid-week if you can — it’s noticeably quieter than July and August
  • Book evening meals a touch in advance if you have your eye on somewhere specific in the Old Town
  • Evenings are cooler than you’d expect this year — pack accordingly (more on that below)

WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK

A strong week for entertainment and that early-season atmosphere that long-time Benidorm visitors know is quietly one of the best times to be there.

📅 Saturday 3 May – Sunday 10 May

BENIDORM PALACE — NIGHTLY SPECTACULAR

Benidorm Palace | Ticketed

If you haven’t been to Benidorm Palace yet, sort that out immediately. The nightly show is everything you’d expect — big production numbers, stunning costumes, and the kind of spectacle that makes you forget you’re full of paella. Book ahead; they fill up fast in May.

📅 Every Evening, 3–10 May

LIVE MUSIC ON THE STRIP

Fibbers, Café Benidorm, Jokers and more | Free entry / drinks prices vary

The Strip’s nightly live music circuit is in full swing. Fibbers and Jokers are reliably good for covers and tribute acts, while Café Benidorm keeps the classic holiday entertainment rolling. None of it requires a plan — just follow the music.

📅 Daily from Saturday 3 May

THE LEVANTE PROMENADE

Levante Beach promenade | Free

The peamen are back, the beach vendors are doing their rounds, and the promenade is doing what it does best: providing an endless, free, gloriously chaotic show. We could watch it for hours. You will too.

TONIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT

Your evening sorted — three solid options, zero planning required.

🎭 BENIDORM PALACE

☀️ WEATHER WATCH — MAY 2026

We’re back from Benidorm as of last Saturday and can tell you this from direct experience: the days are genuinely lovely right now, but the evenings will catch you out if you’re not prepared.

Daytime temperatures are sitting in the mid-to-high twenties — 24 to 28°C is what you can reasonably expect — but once that sun dips behind the mountains, it cools off quickly. Local residents have been saying all season that it’s been unusually changeable and the worst winter in years by their reckoning, and that unpredictability hasn’t entirely left the forecast. A cardi in your bag is not optional this week. It is essential.

Highs: 27°C  |  Lows: 16°C  |  Sun: ~9 hrs/day

Rain days: ~3–4 this month  |  Sea: 19°C

WHAT TO PACK: Light clothes are fine for the days — you’ll be in shorts and sunglasses by 10am. But bring at least one light jacket or cardigan for evenings, and don’t be surprised if you need it the moment the sun goes down. A travel umbrella tucked in the case is more sensible this year than most.

💡 TIP OF THE WEEK

PACK EVENING LAYERS — SERIOUSLY

We know, we know. It’s Benidorm. You’re thinking shorts and flip-flops, not cardigans. But we just got back and we’re telling you plainly: the evenings are cool right now, and the weather this season has been more unpredictable than usual.

Locals who’ve lived there for years have been commenting on it all season — it’s been a difficult, changeable winter, and while the days are warm and beautiful, the temperature drops noticeably after sunset. A light jacket takes up no space in your case and will be the difference between a comfortable evening on a terrace and wishing you’d brought something warmer. Pack it. You can always leave it in the hotel room if you don’t need it.

🤔 DID YOU KNOW?

The peamen of Levante Beach have been parting visitors from their euros with those three cups and a pea-shaped ball for longer than most of Benidorm’s current bars have been standing. Nobody ever wins. Everybody watches. And every year, a fresh wave of holidaymakers absolutely convinced they’ve cracked it steps forward to prove that wrong. It is the most consistently entertaining free show on the promenade — possibly in all of Spain. Don’t play. Do watch.

That’s your Bulletin for 3–10 May. If you’re heading out to Benidorm this week, we’re properly jealous — enjoy every warm, slightly breezy, sangria-scented minute of it.

Next issue we’ll be back with more as the season hits its stride, and hopefully a weather update that involves rather fewer cardigans.

Until next time — keep the sun on your face and the sangria cold. ☀️
