This privacy policy explains how Benidorm Old Town (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit www.benidormoldtown.co.uk, subscribe to the Benidorm Bulletin newsletter, or respond to one of our advertisements on Facebook or Instagram. We are committed to handling your data lawfully and transparently in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
Benidorm Old Town publishes the Benidorm Bulletin, a free weekly email newsletter for people who love Benidorm. For the purposes of data protection law, we are the data controller responsible for your personal information. If you have any questions about this policy or about how we handle your data, you can contact us at glyn@benidormoldtown.co.uk.
What information we collect
We only collect the information we need to send you the newsletter and run our website. This may include:
- Your name and email address, when you subscribe to the Benidorm Bulletin through our website or through a sign-up form on Facebook or Instagram.
- Any optional information you choose to give us when subscribing, such as when you next plan to visit Benidorm.
- Basic technical information collected automatically when you visit our website, such as your IP address, browser type and pages viewed, through cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies” below).
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data, and we do not ask for payment details on our website.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Send you the Benidorm Bulletin newsletter and related updates you have asked to receive.
- Understand which content our readers enjoy, so we can improve the newsletter and website.
- Respond to any enquiries you send us.
- Keep our website secure and working properly.
Our lawful basis for processing
We rely on your consent to send you marketing emails, which you give when you subscribe. You can withdraw that consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us directly. We rely on our legitimate interests to keep our website secure and to understand, in aggregate, how it is used. Where we use cookies that are not strictly necessary, we rely on your consent given through our cookie banner.
Who we share your information with
We never sell your personal data. We share it only with the trusted service providers who help us run the newsletter and website, and only so far as they need it to provide their service to us:
- EmailOctopus — our email marketing platform, which stores your name and email address and delivers the newsletter to you.
- Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram) — when you subscribe through one of our advertisements, your details are collected through Meta’s sign-up form before we transfer them to EmailOctopus.
- Our website hosting and analytics providers — who help us run and measure the website.
Some of these providers are based outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where your data is transferred abroad, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK’s International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep your information
We keep your subscriber details for as long as you remain subscribed to the newsletter. If you unsubscribe, we will remove your details from our active mailing list, though we may keep a minimal record of your unsubscribe request so that we do not contact you again by mistake.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct any inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Ask us to delete your data.
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, our use of your data.
- Withdraw your consent at any time.
- Ask us to transfer your data to another provider.
To exercise any of these rights, please email us at glyn@benidormoldtown.co.uk. We will respond within one month.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies, which are small text files stored on your device. Some are necessary for the site to function, while others help us understand how visitors use the site or allow us to measure the performance of our advertising. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and where required we will ask for your consent through a cookie banner before placing non-essential cookies.
Children
Our newsletter and website are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 16.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it occasionally.
How to complain
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please contact us first so we can try to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at www.ico.org.uk.
